For the opening ceremony representatives from the participating government ministries gave the usual highbrow speeches—pointless, but delivered amiably enough, and demonstrative of the high degree of government commitment to the Programme. In the afternoon, Professor _______ gave a humorous and well received speech on the concept of team teaching. He was followed by a couple of lesser speeches and then by a very well put together one-hour video (also humorous) capturing a day in the life of a (probably not so average) ALT. The second half of the afternoon was given over to electives. Most participants, including myself, elected not to participate. Some slept. I borrowed my roommate’s camera and set out to record what everyone else was doing.
